Work Information

Other Jobs

I went freelance after college for a while, doing general IT work (websites, computer repair, etc..), it wasn't that exciting, hence my move back to research for the time being!

I worked for Bailey Medical several times. Bailey Medical was medical distribution business owned by my family. I worked there as a warehouse manager/general warehouse guy, a receptionist/secretary, occasional delivery man (sometimes we'd have to deliver devices urgently, and if nobody else was around, it fell to me, it's a strange feeling driving something that will save someone's life, and that person is on the operating table. If you drop some of the devices, you can't use them either, so that always added to the excitement!)

Other Websites

Some I wholly own and manage, others I just manage/admin, and some have nothing on them yet, they are just ideas that I need the time to develop!

Personal Information

Short Bio

Hi! I'm Eoin Bailey, author of this site, and a few others. I went to Blackrock College, where I graduated in 1999 and then headed to Engineering in Trinity College Dublin. I chose Trinity because I was leaning towards computer engineering. In the end I chose a hybrid, I did Electronic and Computer Engineering. I graduated with a first class honours in 2003. I was offered a place on the Networks and Distributed Systems Masters offered by Trinity.

Near the end of 2004 I finished up NDS, had my second graduation and got my third bit of paper from Trinity and then I moved on. I travelled a little bit, I worked some freelance jobs, and I had some ideas. In the end I made my way back to college, this time University College Dublin, where I started my Ph.D. in May 2006.

As of April 2008 I am working on my Ph.D., developing some website ideas I have (check back in a few weeks, I'll have an early beta up then), trying to get back into training, and enjoying being in the best relationship ever, with this wonderful lady!

Academic Information

Ph.D.

Currently I can be found in UCD, University College Dublin, in the Computer Science and Informatics department. I have been here since May 2006 (my first week I was a student volunteer at Pervasive 2006, my fourth week I think it was, I was a volunteer for ICAC 2006 too!).

Check out here for more information on my Ph.D.: Eoin's Ph.D.

Masters

I attended the M.Sc. in Computer Science (Networks and Distributed Systems) in TCD, Trinity College Dublin. My thesis for my masters is available at TCD: An Implementation of a Parasitic Routing Algorithm.

Undergraduate

I was an under-graduate in TCD. I started in general Engineering (I received an award upon entering TCD for achievement in my Leaving Certificate), and in my third year I specialised in Electronic and Computer Engineering. In my third year I took the following courses (they've changed the names of some of them, so I hope this is still correct!):

  • Engineering Mathematics V
  • Engineering Mathematics VI
  • Management for Engineers
  • Signals and Systems
  • Electronic Engineering 1
  • Telecommunications
  • Electronic Systems Design and Implementation
  • Microprocessor Systems 1
  • Microprocessor Systems 2
  • Computer Networks

For my TCD engineering final year I took the following subjects:

  • WORK IN PROGRESS - TO BE ADDED

I graduated with a first class honours from Trinity College Dublin in 2003.
