Eircom WEP keys algorithm
The agreement between Eircom and the IMRA (I'm not linking to either of their sites) to disconnect alleged copyright infringers is a new low. I heard a spokeperson for the IMRA discuss this on The Last Word, and he mentioned that you should encrypt your WiFi to prevent other people using your internet and downloading anything that is copyrighted (since according to him, anything that has a copyright cannot be downloaded for free legally - a complete falsehood).
The security that is employed by Eircom routers has been cracked, and has been cracked for ages (I don't know if they still use this algorithm, but it was used for many years).
So, that won't help.
Way to go Eircom and IMRA. Of course, if this agreement is put into effect, we will start to see mass disconnects, huge numbers of false positives, and therefore large migration of broadband users away from Eircom. I guess this won't be such a bad thing afterall.
